Bruce Odland and his partners, Annea Lockwood and Lin Esser, created a new score for Richter’s "Rhythmus 21" playing sound sculptures designed by the legendary Baschet Brothers. The careers of Francois and Bernard Baschet overlapped with that of Hans Richter, but they never collaborated directly. Odland and company closed that loop, however, marrying Richter’s clashing abstract imagery as a graphic score for their improvised accompaniment on the Baschet’s Cristal, Zither and Marimba. The restored instruments from the 1950s are housed at The Yale School of Drama.
You can download samples of these unique instruments below as elements for your own rescore of a Richter film.
